A gourmet business in Marlow has created a GoFundMe page to help pay off its bill for a brand new roof.

Haynes Gourmet, which was founded four years ago, have an old barn on their property and following a surge of orders to pack their goods, it was evidently clear that the business needed more space for storage.

They decided to use the barn for additional storage capacity but after seeing that the roof needed a repair, it was later revealed that the beams ‘holding up the roof was rotten and eaten with woodworm.’

The roof has since been replaced but at some cost, as the business are now hoping to reach their goal of £5,000 to pay for the bill.

Founder Charity Haynes said: “We had been told that the roof should be able to be repaired, and not need replacing, so we took the plunge and booked in the builders.

“We tried to keep costs down as best we could.

“We did whatever work we could ourselves so that we could save money.

“We pulled down the ceiling panels, knocked through the wall partitions, and pulled up the flooring.

“It was an exhausting job.

“We pulled everything out and had to drag it out of the barn to be disposed of.

“We had nothing but a big empty shell of a barn, which was pretty depressing, so we had no choice but to go ahead with a new roof.

“The main thing was that the roof would be safe for years to come, and a beautiful old barn was saved.”

“The truth is, the barn renovation bill came to over double what it had originally been quoted and for us, this was huge.

“We thought we could just pay the builders and try out best to get by, but it has been hard.

"The build cost has eaten into money that we need to pay our bills, and buy in more product.

“Our online sales, although ticking over, have dropped significantly since lockdown has eased and the weather has improved.
