A High Wycombe care home is celebrating after becoming a finalist for a national award.

Care UK’s Catherine Court, on Cressex Road in the town, has made it to the finals of the ‘Best Home for Sporting, Social or Leisure Activities’ category at the Care Home Awards.

The national awards recognise and reward excellence and innovation in UK care home management, operation and delivery, with lifestyle coordinators, Louise Brown and Rita Leon, being acknowledged for their efforts.

Michael Daley, Home Manager at Catharine Court, said: “What a superb job Louise, Rita and our whole team at Catherine Court have done for the residents, going above and beyond, particularly over the last year.

“The nomination is testament to their dedication and highlights their passion to ensure every single resident leads a happy and fulfilled life here.

“From Wild West days to our Hawaiian party, there is never a dull moment at Catherine Court.

“I’m incredibly proud of our team and everything they do to ensure Catherine Court is a fantastic place to call home.

“We’re keeping our fingers crossed for a win later this year.”

Louise and Rita work closely with residents and their families to create life story books for each resident so they can tailor everything to suit residents’ interests.

Their secret is to really listen carefully to residents – recognising that even the most casual comment can inspire an idea.

One conversation about favourite films and musicians led to the team planning a Wild West day, including a barbecue and line dancing – and a Hawaiian party was inspired by a resident’s fondness for an Elvis Presley film.

The team members have also trained as Namaste Care practitioners and run individual sessions for residents, delivering hand massages which help the residents to relax and feel valued.

The winner of the ‘Best Home for ‘Sporting, Social or Leisure Activities’ category in the Care Home Awards will be announced on September 10 2021.
