Former Wycombe midfielder Nnamdi Ofoborh will be out for an undisclosed amount of time after scans revealed the 21-year-old has got a heart issue.

Ofoborh, who currently plays for the SPL champions Rangers, joined the Scottish outfit in January when he signed a pre-contract agreement with the club – which was the same day he joined Wanderers on loan from Bournemouth for a second time.

Upon making the move to Scotland this summer after his loan deal with the Chairboys concluded, scans showed a ‘red flag’ in his test.

It is not known when Ofoborh will return.

Speaking after Rangers’ 2-2 draw against Arsenal on Saturday, July 17, manager Steven Gerrard said: “I don’t think you’ll see him [Ofoborh] in the short term either - unfortunately, something's flagged up on his ECG, which is the heart tests.

“We’ve got top medical people here at the club now and we check all the players thoroughly from head to toe when they arrive.Bucks Free Press: Ofoborh played in the final against Oxford last summer (PA)Ofoborh played in the final against Oxford last summer (PA)

"Unfortunately, there's been a bit of a red flag with a heart issue, so he's going to see some specialists in the coming weeks, and we need to do more tests and checks before we move forward which is of course it's disappointing and frustrating, but we need to manage and cope.

“The important thing here is the player’s health which we will focus on first and foremost.

“Of course, it's disappointing and frustrating for the player, but I spoke to him yesterday [July 16] and I told him to keep smiling and be patient and we'll do everything we can to support him, get him in front of the right people to give him the right support and hopefully he'll be back before not too long."

Wycombe Wanderers also offered support to their former player by saying on Twitter: “We're sending all our love to our promotion-winning loanee @NnamdiOfoborh4, who faces time out of the game due to an issue with his heart.

“Stay safe, Nnamdi - we're thinking of you.”

Across two spells with Wanderers, Ofoborh played 33 times and scored twice for the Chairboys.

His last game for the club was in the 1-0 home win against Preston North End on Saturday, March 13.
