A footpath was flooded with sewage in Little Marlow after a power outage caused machinery to fail on Sunday evening (July 18).

The sewage also entered the nearby streams at The Moor and Spade Oak Nature Reserve as the area flooded with the spillage.

One resident said that “runners and walkers were wading through it” with the last of the wastewater cleaned up this morning.

Residents were also affected by the power outage with dozens reporting on social media their lights to be flickering for around 15 minutes.

A spokesman for Thames Water said: “A power outage in the area caused machinery at the works to fail, resulting in some screened wastewater flooding nearby areas.

“Our engineers quickly made their way to site and redirected the excess flow to storm tanks to prevent further flooding, before carrying out a full clean-up the following morning.

“We’ve also sent out additional tankers this morning to ensure the affected areas are fully cleaned and are working with the Environment Agency to make sure the situation is resolved.”
