Wycombe striker Adebayo Akinfenwa has joked that Lionel Messi could join Wanderers this summer.

The 34-year-old, who is regarded as one of the best players of all time, has confirmed that he will leave Barcelona after 21 years.

In that time, he has gone onto make 778 appearances for the Blaugrana and has scored 683 goals, since making his first-team debut in the 2004/05 season.

Many clubs are licking their lips at potentially signing the six-time Ballon d’Or winner, whilst other clubs, such as Wycombe, are joking at the prospect of securing his signature.

Such as Akinfenwa, who took to Twitter to say: “People thought I was joking!!! See you soon bro. Welcome to the @wwfcofficial family.”
