Wycombe midfielder David Wheeler has confirmed that he missed his side’s victory over Accrington Stanley after testing positive for Covid-19.

The 30-year-old, who joined the club in 2019, confirmed the news via his Twitter page, where he also revealed that he is self-isolating.

This comes as a blow for the former QPR man, as next up for Wanderers is a trip down to his old stomping ground in Exeter City in the League Cup on August 10.

Speaking on social media, he said: “So gutted to not be involved today after testing positive for Covid, but will be watching at home hoping to see more scenes like this today at Adams Park!

“Come on Wycombe!!!

“Hoping our fans have a great day out back at the football.”

Wheeler has scored seven goals in 80 matches since joining Wanderers from QPR two years ago.
