This is what you have been writing to us about this week.

The flow of water in the River Wye as it passes through the Rye next to London Road is good.

It has to be good for Pann Mill to work and I and other members of the Mill team from time to time don waders or wet suits to clear the river of some of the weed and wild water cress and all of the shopping trolleys which impede the flow.

As a result of this work, the Mill team have first-hand knowledge of the level of the river, which is about a foot below the footpath on the Rye downstream from the Mill and a minimum of three feet below the level of London Road.

We also know how the river floods, which is over the footpath on to the Rye, which is the river’s natural flood plain, as shown in the picture accompanying the article in your August 6th edition.

For London Road to be flooded from the River Wye the whole of the Rye would need to be submerged to a depth of several feet.

The Environment Agency’s stewardship of the River Wye is not without fault. But Councillor Broadbent’s assertion that the London Road flooding “is largely the result of flooding from the River Wye” is mistaken.

The flooding is entirely the result of inadequate or blocked drains on London Road. This is the responsibility solely of the council which has failed to maintain the drains properly, despite recent council tax increases.

The council should fix the problem and not try to pass the buck to another agency.

There will be an Open Day at Pann Mill on 18th September and I invite Councillor Broadbent to come to High Wycombe to see the Mill running.

Members of the Mill team will be happy to take time out to show him the blocked drains on London Road, as well as to sell him some flour.
