A popular pub in Beaconsfield is due to shut down in late October after being unable to agree on new terms with the landlord.

The Swan in London End has been open since March 2008 but will close its doors as the pub has not been able to secure a new lease with Enterprise Inns and Stonegate Pub Company.

Hundreds of comments have been left under the pub's post announcing the news with upset residents looking at starting a petition to stop the closure.

The pub said on their website: "Despite our repeated attempts, we have failed to agree terms on a new lease with Enterprise Inns and Stonegate Pub Company.

"Despite running a successful business since March 2008, Enterprise Inns and Stonegate have decided they will be better off taking the pub away from us and running it themselves.

"Our last operating dates will be in late October."

The Swan also confirmed that that pub is due to be taken on by a joint venture with the Stonegate Pub Company.

They said: "The pub is due to be taken on by a joint venture with Stonegate - the largest pub company in the UK.

"This joint venture company is called Old Spot Pub Company and provide 'classic and contemporary' food and a local pub feel across their 15+ sites."

The pub is not expecting to continue its live music programme but is on the lookout for another local venue to host their popular 'Open Mic' night.

Restricted items and times will be available for the pub's 'soul food social kitchen' as the event winds down by the end of August.

A number of options in different locations are being looked at by The Swan and the pub has said they will update customers as soon as they can.

The Bucks Free Press has contacted Stonegate Pub Company and will also provide an update as soon as we get it.
