A dog that has spent the last 14 months in the care of a charity is looking to find a new home.

Doris, who is a 10-year-old Jack Russell/terrier cross, is being cared for at the RSPCA Blackberry Farm Animal Centre in Waddesdon.

The dog has been in the care of the Quainton-based rescue home after her previous owner died, and due to the coronavirus pandemic that began last March, it made rehoming Doris a challenge.

When she was first put into the care of the RSPCA, the golden oldie had some behavioural issues.

She was had been described as ‘nervous’ and ‘unsure of handling’, and would tense up whenever she was touched.

According to the RSPCA, she would then become quite aggressive.

However, over the last year, along with the help of a behaviourist team, have helped Doris’ confidence.

Paula Flitney, from RSPCA Blackberry Farm, said: “Once she gets to know you Doris is a friendly girl who is happy to see you.

“Now she is greeting people and is happy to engage on her own terms.

Once you know her, her communication that she is uncomfortable is quite clear so she needs owners who will be aware of this and give her a lot of time and space to settle in without putting any pressure on her whilst she is getting to know and trust them.

“Her new owners must be patient and understand a dog’s body language.

“Once they’ve mastered this, Doris will make an absolutely fantastic companion.”

The RSPCA added: “Doris is an active little dog with bags of energy who will need experienced owners who can continue her training and build up her trust.

“She would be best suited to an adult-only household and a home that does not have lots of visitors.”

Doris has now been described in having ‘bags of energy’ and ‘loves to go on long walks’.
