The heartbroken mother of Apryl Scorer, the teenager who died while on a family holiday in France last year, has paid an emotional tribute to her daughter.
At an inquest which was held at Beaconsfield Coroners’ Court yesterday (Tuesday) a coroner ruled that 16-year-old Apryl died of natural causes on August 13, 2020, due to a pre-existing heart condition.
Before the coroner reached his ruling, Apryl’s mother Nikki stood up to read an emotional and touching tribute to her daughter.
She said: “When I used to talk about Apryl, I would say if I could pick anyone off the shelf, I would pick her.
“Apryl was so unbelievably kind and loving for someone of such tender age, she really saw people.
“She was a great supporter to her sister and had a truly special relationship with her nan.”
The talented young dancer from Hazlemere, who was in year 11 at Sir William Ramsay, had been on holiday in the south of France, where she had been to many times before on trips with her family.
On the second last day of the holiday, Apryl had enjoyed some small drinks with her family before heading out with her friends. Later that night she started feeling unwell and then collapsed. The family now know this was caused by a pre-existing heart condition.

Speaking at the inquest, Nikki explained how Apryl was usually the person who looked after her friends on nights out.
She said: “We know she had a relatively small amount of alcohol when she was out but this was unusual, she often went out with a bottle of water and would be there to hold her friend’s hair if they were unwell.”
Following her tragic death, hundreds of people wanted to attend Apryl’s funeral, but only 30 could go due to the COVID-19 restrictions.
Despite her young age, Apryl, who wanted to be a counsellor when she was older, had made a lasting impact on many of the people who knew her.
Nikki said: “I have had so many messages from people saying that when their child was having a tough day, Apryl helped them.
“There were really hundreds. If someone was in trouble Apryl helped them.”
“Apryl was a special girl, she was the best she could be.
“She will be missed by everyone who was lucky enough to meet her.
