Residents have said recent road surfacing works in a Bucks village have been “noisy” at night, caused vibrations, and torn up the green – but some said it ‘had to be done’.

Saunderton villagers have given their reactions to Transport for Bucks’ recent surfacing programme on the A4010 Wycombe Road, directly outside many of their properties.

The programme schedule was from Friday, October 1 to Monday, October 4 – but this can change due to weather.

Surfacing works were carried out using a night-time road closure between 7pm and 6am.

And while some locals agreed the authority “had to do something”, others were up at 2am with the noise, while others still said the vehicles used and parked on the green were an “eyesore” that “teared up the grass”.

Bucks Free Press: One person claimed empty alcohol containers had begun to collect near the vehicles.

Another resident said their elderly neighbour had been scared, thinking “the house was going to fall down with the vibrations”.

They added: “It’s teared up the grass too but it’s worth it”.

Bucks Free Press: Another said: “It’s been pretty noisy at night, between 7pm and 6am they’re working. Also, at around 2am there’s lights, lots of people and machines.

“The worst night was when they were scraping the top off.”

Another resident said: “It’s been noisy at night. Sometimes it’s 7pm, others it’s 10pm-11pm.

“If you had kids, it could be quite a problem. We sleep in the back room so it’s not quite as bad.”

They added: “The road had got into a bad state, they had to do something.”

A newcomer to the area said of the parked vehicles on the green: “It’s a bit of an eyesore.”

Adding: “There’s a lot of beer cans too, I don’t know who it is.”

Bucks Free Press: Another person said: “They’ve got to do the work. Neighbours are the first to complain when there’s potholes. It needs doing. We got letters saying it was going to be done.

“It’s been noisy, but they’ve tried to get it done as early as possible.”
