A High Wycombe man who was given a suspended sentence for refusing to leave Tesco in the Eden Centre has now been sent to prison for using “abusive language.”

In July, 41-year-old Thomas Chapman was given a suspended sentence after he breached a criminal behaviour order on multiple occasions – including refusing to leave the High Wycombe Tesco and for being abusive towards the manager of a Co-op in Aylesbury.

Only a few days later, on August 4, Chapman, of West Wycombe Road, breached the court order once again when he went to an address in Lee Road, Aylesbury, and used “abusive language” towards two people.

Chapman denied breaching a criminal behaviour order, but after he failed to turn up to his own trial at Wycombe Magistrates’ Court on September 29, the magistrates were not as generous as they had been previously.

The magistrates sentenced him to 16 weeks behind bars after finding him guilty in his absence and his 14-week suspended sentence was also activated, meaning he will now spend 30 weeks in jail.

The justices found that Chapman showed “flagrant disregard” for court orders and felt that his record of previous offending aggravated matters further.

He was also ordered to pay £128 in costs.
