Wetherspoons is remaining tight-lipped amid rumours they could be opening a new pub in Beaconsfield.

Rumours have been swirling on social media that the pub chain could be opening up at the old Prezzo restaurant in Beaconsfield New Town.

Work has recently been going on inside the Station Road building after Prezzo moved out earlier this year.

The Beaconsfield restaurant was one of a 22 branches shut down across the country earlier this year when Cain International purchased the chain in a bid to secure its future.

It has been empty ever since.

Residents have been speculating on social media that Wetherspoons is hoping to open up a pub in the old restaurant building, but a spokesman for the pub chain has refused to comment.

A spokesman for the chain did not deny the claim, but said it was something they could not comment on when approached by the Bucks Free Press for clarification about their plans.

The striking building used to house the Chiltern Cinema, but it closed in the 1980s shortly after a six-screen multiplex opened in Cressex, High Wycombe (now Empire).

Before it was Prezzo, it was Zoom Children's Adventure Funhouse but plans to turn it into a restaurant were given the go-ahead by the council in 2011 when Zoom Enterprises Ltd admitted it was “no longer able to support an unviable business” and was too reliant on rainy weather.
