An unhappy resident has claimed her complaints about the state of her road are “falling on deaf ears”.

Lizzie Owen who lives on Hillside Road in Marlow has said residents were under the impression they would see a fully resurfaced road last month as part of Buckinghamshire's £100m road improvement programme.

Instead, the road was resurfaced in patches with Lizzie labelling it a “badly bodged repair job”.

She also says the road experiences issues with flash flooding with the “drains overflowing on a regular basis”.

However, the council says when they visited Hillside Road on October 4 for a quality check on gullies in question and it was found they were draining as they should.

It was confirmed that the council is looking at raising the kerbstones outside the property in a response to issue.

Lizzie said: “Our road has become so scarred with cracks and badly filled gulleys for underground resources, and is now used on a daily basis for an essential bus service and other through route needs, it’s beyond just patching up.

“We consistently complain to Buckinghamshire County Council via the ‘Fix My Street’ app on their website, who occassionaly bring a clipboard of notes and rarely action the requests.

“We are currently experiencing issues with flash flooding due to Climate Change, and the drains overflow on a regular basis, flooding our homes with dirty, contaminated water, this is only going to get worse as the climate becomes more fragile.

“We pay an enormous amount of Council Tax for very little return and it does feel like our needs fall on deaf ears!

"Plus our bill has increased, so why are we getting such a poor service?"

A Buckinghamshire council spokesman responded saying: “We have over 3,200km of roads to maintain across the county, so we must carefully allocate our limited resources in the most cost-effective way.

“We expect high standards of work from our suppliers and in this case ─ as we regularly do for work across the county ─ we visited Hillside Road in Marlow on October 4 during heavy rain to make a quality check on gullies in question and found they were draining as they should.

“However, to address this resident’s concerns we are investigating raising the kerbstones outside their property and our supplier will be revisiting the site with this in mind.

“We have apologised for the upset and distress this situation has clearly caused to the resident and have investigated and addressed the issues raised with the contractor concerned.

“We expect the highest standards of behaviour and customer service from all our contractors and will continue to work closely with our suppliers to consistently high standards are delivered.”
