A man called the police to help him remove a “putrid” chicken he bought from Tesco from his fridge.

Thames Valley Police released the audio from the call alongside the hashtag #ThinkBeforeYouDial on October 14.

The audio, which sees the caller complaining about the "absolutely disgusting" chicken, was posted as an example of when not to call the police.

The man started the call explain it was an “odd thing" to put to the police before explaining his problem.

He said: ”I bought a chicken yesterday from Tesco and I put it straight in the fridge without opening the bag.

“I opened it and the smell of it is absolutely disgusting, it's putrid.

“The person who packed the chicken in that bag also put a piece of parmesan with it so that been contaminated by the juiced of putrid chicken.”

The caller then went on the say he had spoken to Tesco about delivering a fresh chicken but the shop’s response was to give him a full refund.

He continued: “I don’t want it in my house and I don’t want it in my bin outside because it will contaminate the inside of the bin.

“I don’t know what to do with it.”

When asking for advice the call handler suggested bagging up the chicken before throwing it away but the man was worried about the contamination this could cause.

The call handler then said: “There is nothing the police are going to be able to do with it, I’m afraid.

“This is a civil matter between you and Tesco.”

The man then made one last request for help by saying he would “If I pay for the petrol, could you send out a car for me?”

The Bucks Free Press has contacted Tesco for a comment.
