A man from High Wycombe has been ordered to pay hundreds of pounds after he got on a train without paying for a ticket which would have cost less than £5.

Aboagye-Berchie Lenita, aged 18, of Gordon Road in High Wycombe, failed to buy a £3.90 ticket when he boarded a Chiltern Railways train going from Princes Risborough to High Wycombe on June 17.

After he was caught not paying his fare, Lenita was fined £220. In addition, he has been ordered to pay £213 costs and £3.90 in compensation – leaving him with a final bill of £436.90.

The sum was decided at a hearing at Wycombe Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday 27 October. Lenita was not present at the court that day, and was found guilty of one charge of travelling on a railway without paying a fare in his absence.

Lenita must pay the full balance by November 24.
