Drivers are being urged not to park their vehicles on West Wycombe High Street on Thursday night so drains can be unblocked.

Transport for Bucks (TfB) reportedly tried to empty the gullies and drains in the major village road in August and again in September 2019, but couldn't do it because of the parked vehicles in the way.

Although the parish council "pointed out that there are many gullies not affected" by parked cars, TfB were reportedly "adamant" they will not carry out any work unless all of them are removed.

Teams are expected to try and give the drains - some of which even have plants growing in them - a clean overnight on November 11 to 12, so the parish council is urging people not to leave their cars there.

They said they have been trying to get the drains cleared between the Chorley Road junction and the Pedestal roundabout for two years, amid ongoing incidents of flooding in bad weather.

The council said: "Would all residents who park their cars in the High Street, for one night, please park in either the Village Hall car park, the Burial Ground car park behind St Paul’s Church or, by kind permission of West Wycombe Estate, residents can have free parking until noon on Friday in the Garden Centre car park.

"We have been told that if there are any parked cars they will not attempt anything.

"We are sorry to cause this inconvenience but with winter rainfall on the horizon and the recent experience of the High Street to the Pedestal being flooded it is important that we get this work completed.

"Thank you very much for your help, it is appreciated and all our residents whose doors open directly onto the pavement will hopefully benefit."
