Buckinghamshire Council has been revealed as one of the counties to be handing out the most parking tickets in the entire country.
According to a Freedom of Information request, the council came in second place after handing out 32,372 tickets already in 2021.
Durham County Council came in first place with a staggering 41,591 parking tickets, meaning it has given out considerably more fines than even Buckinghamshire.
The new research revealed the top 5 councils to hand out fines which include: North Yorkshire County Council with 32,256, East Sussex County Council on 28,379 and Oxfordshire County Council in fifth place with 26,802.
Peter Brabin, head of training at Bill Plant Driving School, which conducted the research, said: “Ultimately, the fault lies with the motorist. It’s their job to ensure they have parked legally, whether that’s on a free-to-park area of the road, in a car park or otherwise.
“It’s never nice to return to your vehicle and find a parking ticket, but most councils will allow you to pay a reduced rate if you pay within a short window of time.
"If you can’t pay the fine, don’t do the crime.”

According to the data, there doesn’t appear to be a lot of consistency within regions or any kind of pattern of note.
The highest and least number of fines are spread across the North and South of the country and the list also sees a combination of more rural and urban areas too.
The research also revealed the other side of the scale with Somerset Council handing out around a quarter of Durham's total at 10,191 tickets in 2021 so far.
The other councils handing out the least number of fines include Staffordshire County Council on 10,427 and Derbyshire County Council with 11,602 tickets.
Rounding out the lowest five is Shropshire Council with 12,324 fines and Herefordshire Council on 12,367.
