With the majority of people (who could) working from home as the Covid-19 pandemic swept across the world, it probably won’t come as a surprise that usage of the our railway stations plunged over the past year.

But new estimates on station usage between April 1, 2020, and March 31, 2021, have revealed the true extent of the drop.

The Office of Rail and Road (ORR) has put together a list of the most and least used stations during that time, compared with previous years, based primarily on ticket sales.

Stratford London was the most used station in Great Britain in 2020/21, with nearly 14 million entries and exits – 27.9 million (67 per cent) lower than 2019/20.

There were six stations in 2020/21 that actually recorded zero entries or exits – Abererch, Llanbedr and Sugar Loaf in Wales, Beasdale in Scotland, and Sampford Courtenay and Stanlow and Thornton in England.

We’ve taken a look at the data (grouped by constituency) to find out how many people entered or exited at all the railway stations in Buckinghamshire – and how the figures compared to the year before.
