A taxi driver was grabbed by the neck in a racist attack in High Wycombe.

Police have appealed for witnesses to come forward after the driver was attacked by a man in Shelburne Road on Wednesday at around 3.20pm.

The taxi was called by the offender because his car had broken down, but when the driver arrived the man became angry and started calling him racist, derogatory names.

When the victim asked the man to get out of his taxi, the man grabbed him by the neck and shouted at him, before getting out of the vehicle and leaving the scene.

The assailant is described as a slim white man, around 5ft 5ins tall, with short brown hair, clean shaven and with squashed features.

He was wearing brown clothes, had a deep voice and his broken-down car is described as a grey estate.

Investigating officer PC Cameron Parker-Graham, based at High Wycombe police station, said: “ We are appealing for anyone who may have witnessed this incident, or any with information about what happened, to please come forward.

“To report any information to police, please call 101 or make a report online, quoting reference 43210543280.

“Alternatively, if you wish to remain anonymous, you can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 or via their website.”
