All supermarkets had signs asking customers to wear masks, however, there was no staff on the doors checking shoppers.

A spokesperson for Thames Valley Police, said: “Thames Valley Police will support businesses and transport providers following the change in the law around the requirement for the public to wear face coverings, unless they are exempt, in shops and on public transport.

“Our officers will continue to engage, explain and encourage people to comply with the regulations around face coverings in order to stop the spread of Covid 19, with enforcement an option for those who do not adhere to the new laws.

“We will continue to respond to incidents where individuals are violent or abusive towards staff or members of the public.”
