A suspected drink driver “pretended to be asleep” following a crash near High Wycombe to avoid talking to police.

Thames Valley Police officers, two fire engines and an ambulance were called to Finings Road in Lane End at 6pm on Monday following a crash that involved three vehicles.

When the emergency services arrived on the scene, they found that the driver of one of the cars involved in the collision was stuck in his vehicle.

The man attempted to assault the firefighters trying to release him from the car, and also attempted to assault paramedics who were trying to help him.

Suspecting the “inconsiderate and obnoxious” man of drink driving, officers attempted to take a roadside breath test but he refused. He then pretended to be asleep to avoid talking to officers and denied driving the car that he had been freed from moments earlier.

After he was released from the wreck, police escorted the man to Wexham Park Hospital, where blood specimens were taken for evidence.

Two other men were released from other vehicles – both were unharmed.

In a post on social media, TVP Roads Policing said: “Our late shift crew from Amersham were called out to Lane End following reports of a multi-car road traffic collision with a mechanical entrapment to one of the drivers.

“What we were met with was an inconsiderate and obnoxious driver.

“This driver took up the valuable time of two fire pumps from two different counties, a medical first responder, an ambulance crew, TVP Roads Policing officers and a PCSO; who were on scene for hours, not to mention a much-needed hospital bed.”
