A road user has slammed a junction overhaul saying the old system worked “perfectly well”.

Paul Stone said the new traffic light-controlled junction at Crest Road and John Hall Way in High Wycombe is baffling, arguing the mini roundabout worked better.

Mr Stone has lived in Cressex his entire life and claims traffic queues from the M40 and Handy Cross were “never an issue” before Bucks Council installed the lights.

Since then, however, he claims there is “significantly” more traffic down John Hall Way and backing onto the industrial estate.

He also said weekend shopping in the area has become “far more congested”, adding non-stop beeping from frustrated drivers is an “unbearable nuisance”.

He tweeted his own frustration last week: “Wonder how many tens of thousands it cost to install the three-way traffic lights on the junction of John Hall Way and Crest Road, Bucks Council. A mini roundabout has worked perfectly fine for decades. You’ve actually created traffic.”

Bucks Free Press: Drivers dealt with roadworks since January until the junction overhaul ended in September.

The council has said the new “intelligent” traffic signal layout will pave the way for the planned arrival of a McDonald’s drive-thru and another Aldi supermarket at Cressex Island.

“I’ve lived in Cressex my whole life,” said Paul. “During peak rush hours, you could normally expect to start queuing where the mini roundabout used to be (heading up John Hall Way towards Handy Cross roundabout).

“Very little traffic turns into or exits from Crest Road onto John Hall Way, so the instillation of these lights has baffled me. The mini roundabout operated perfectly well but most importantly, there is Coronation Road itself.

“Saturdays have also become far more congested with people visiting/returning from John Lewis/Asda.

“Before the lights were installed, queuing was never an issue coming from M40/Handy Cross roundabout heading north bound.

“Now during rush hours, traffic begins with the outpour of traffic from Cressex industrial estate, particularly evenings from 4.30pm onwards.

“The lights mean that traffic is trailing back down John Hall Way, backing up the Cressex Link Road and onto the industrial estate

“Significantly more traffic around the area since the lights were installed.

“My house overlooks John Hall Way and Cressex Link Road, so as well as using the route on a daily basis, I have a good idea of traffic at all other times.”
