A Gerrards Cross artist has painted a portrait of the first triple amputee to survive an IED blast in Afghanistan.

George Groves, who has an artist studio in South Bucks, painted the incredible piece of artwork of Mark Ormrod.

Mr Ormrod was the recent recipient of a Pride of Britain Award, and has raised almost £600,000 for the Charity REORG, which focuses on, and supports the rehabilitation of veterans and service personnel through Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.

The portrait, which is titled ‘Resilience’, was inspired when George learnt about Mark's story online, and reached out to see if he’d be interested in having his painting done.

George said: “I knew that I had to do Mark’s story justice; which put a healthy pressure on myself to ensure I captured his essence on canvas.

“We are currently hoping to find a home for this painting, with 35 per cent of the proceeds going to REORG; I’m extremely proud of Mark, and I’m still in awe that I actually got to paint this man”.

The painting is currently being showcased at HOST Galleries in Plymouth, where Mark was recently awarded Freeman of the City for his contributions to the area.
