A SPARKLING Christmas lights trail in High Wycombe has already raised more than £2,000 for a charity set up in memory of a baby who was born sleeping.

The High Wycombe Windowland Trail has seen more than 100 homes get decked out in amazing Christmas lights to help raise vital cash for Sweet William's Legacy, a charity set up by parents Mairead McAlpine and Harry Evans after they sadly lost their third son in May 2020.

Families have been donating to the cause by buying a trail pack, complete with map of all the homes involved, before heading out to marvel at the incredible displays.

There are 105 homes involved in the trail this year from all across High Wycombe.

The first ever Windowland trail was launched at Christmas last year by mum-of-two Rebecca Impey in a bid to spread festive cheer when we needed it most - while also encouraging people to buy maps of the homes involved, with the money going to a chosen charity.

The success of the first ever Christmas trail led to Rebecca organising an Easter version, complete with bunnies and eggs, back in March and a Disney trail featuring famous characters in August.

And the Christmas trail returned for a second year on December 10, finishing on Christmas Eve.

So far, more than £2,100 has been raised for Sweet William's Legacy.

With more houses than ever taking part, in parts of the town that have never joined in before, Rebecca says their goal is to eventually "light up the whole of High Wycombe".

Rebecca said: "To have this many houses this year is amazing.

"Hidden elves are in every window awaiting trail goers to find and lots of lovely houses lit up again, majority are our regulars who have supported us from the beginning however we have finally reached other areas in High Wycombe which is amazing."

Their aim is to raise enough cash to buy a cold cuddle cot for parents who have suffered the lost of a baby and donate it to a Buckinghamshire hospital.

A cuddle cot is a special cooled unit where grieving parents can keep their stillborn child for a while, instead of them being taken to the morgue - giving them precious days to say goodbye.

Mairead and Harry were able to spend four days with their stillborn son William at Wexham Park Hospital's bereavement suite thanks to a cuddle cot.
