THE council has hinted at possible future plans for a new leisure centre somewhere in Bucks.

Leader Cllr Martin Tett signalled the possibility of Bucks Council building a new facility, during the ‘Hot Topics’ segment of Cabinet on Thursday.

He pitched the idea to cabinet member for culture and leisure Cllr Clive Harriss as the pair discussed the recent opening of the Chilterns Lifestyle Centre in Amersham, which they hailed a success.

The long-awaited new facility cost £36 million and was due to open on November 15 but was postponed until December 6 following delays with construction.

Although no known plans for a new facility have been announced, Cllr Harriss told colleagues he believed certain parts of the county would welcome a new leisure centre.

Cllr Tett on the Chilterns Lifestyle Centre: “Whenever I’ve been there it’s been really well used and so far, a great success.

“I think one of the things we could look at is whether we need a similar centre elsewhere in the county as population growth changes.”

Cllr Harriss: “There are certain areas that definitely would be very keen to have that.”
