A 20-year-old year man from Hazlemere has been arrested following a crash that left a woman seriously injured.

Thames Valley Police have confirmed a 20-year-old man from Hazlemere has been arrested on suspicion of driving with alcohol levels above the limit and causing serious injury by dangerous driving.

He has since been released under investigation while inquiries continue.

The crash happened on Holmer Green Road on December 28 where two women were hit on their way back from the pub with emergency services attending at 00:35am.

Both women were taken to the John Radcliffe Hospital where one was told she was "lucky to be alive" after being unable to remember the crash.

The woman, who spoke to the Bucks Free Press but asked to remain anonymous, fractured her spine, broke her pelvis and both collar bones as well as needing multiple stitches in her head.

Initially, doctors believed she wouldn't be able to move her legs again but now she is undergoing physical therapy to re-learn to walk and is "improving each day" as she returned home at the weekend.

She now faces ten weeks of tough rehabilitation as she continues her recovery.

The other woman suffered a broken arm and after spending the night in the hospital returned home the following day.
