Flackwell Heath’s charity game against Arlesey Town last weekend was a resounding success, with more than 400 spectators in attendance at Wilks Park.

It shows that when a club publicises a game and offers reduced admission prices, the locals can really come out in their numbers.

As we move out of the pandemic, non-league attendances appear to be in their best place for a long time with these volunteer-run clubs coming out the other side of a very difficult two years.

This season is hopefully set to be the first completed campaign at non-league level since 2018/19, and as the promotion and relegation battles intensify, we could see some more massive crowds in the next few months.

Saturday, March 26 is Non League Day, and although Wycombe Wanderers are currently scheduled to host Fleetwood Town on that day, it’s a big day for clubs further down the pyramid and is the first time the event has taken place since 2019.

Risborough Rangers have seen their average attendance increase significantly this year, and despite winning 17 of their 21 league games, they still have a title fight on their hands.

They do have a game in hand on their two nearest challengers, New Salamis and Hadley, and travel to Flackwell Heath in a local derby this Saturday.

Risborough’s next home game is against Leverstock Green on Tuesday, 8 February as they continue in their push for promotion to the eighth tier.

Another local side, Holmer Green, sit at the bottom end of the same division and host Tring Athletic this weekend, with the Greens hoping to stave off relegation.

All that’s in the Spartan South Midlands League Premier Division, and in Division One, both Amersham Town and Penn & Tylers Green sit in the bottom half of that league.

Amersham are at home next Saturday (the 5th) against Stotfold, while Penn & Tylers Green welcome Wellingborough Whitworth to French School Meadows this Saturday.

Higher up the pyramid, Beaconsfield Town are having another great season and have almost done enough to secure another campaign in the seventh tier, which would be great feat for a club of their size.

The Rams host Weston-super-Mare this weekend and are in the midst of a run of consecutive home games after their ground underwent improvement work at the start of the season.

In the same division, Chesham United are pushing for a play-off spot come the end of April and currently sit just two points below the dotted line.

The Generals are also at home on Saturday in a huge clash with fifth-placed Yate Town.

It’s a shame that all these games clash with Wanderers’ Buckinghamshire Derby against MK Dons, but if you’re not heading to Adams Park, there’s plenty of other local football on offer.
