Brazen drivers have been caught on dashcam skipping queues after an M40 crash by cruising down the hard shoulder instead.

Courier driver Alex Krasuckis was stuck in standstill traffic on the M40 on Friday, January 28, when his van dashcam caught two drivers trying to get ahead of the queues within minutes of each other.

The videos were recorded at around 9am on the London-bound carriageway between junction 3 for Loudwater and junction 2 for Beaconsfield.

In the first clip, the driver of a red vehicle can be seen driving with its hazard lights on down the hard shoulder.

Around four minutes later, a Mercedes Benz follows it, also with its hazard lights on.

Alex said drivers had been queuing in mostly stand-still traffic for 40 minutes, but the two brazen drivers appeared to "just decide they could go there [in the hard shoulder]" to skip the delays.

According to the RAC, driving down the hard shoulder is illegal and drivers could be penalised by the police, unless in certain circumstances - for example, if you are directed to use the hard shoulder by a traffic police officer or a Highways Agency patrol officer.

Another common exception is roadworks, or if you are on a smart motorway.

Inappropriate use of the hard shoulder - a charge which includes illegally using it as a traffic lane - can see offenders hit with a £100 fine and three points on their licence.
