"We are hoping she can be moved to an open prison soon.”

Barber, who is from Wendover, had been working as a supply teacher at a school in Princes Risborough before she was exposed for her illegal affair with the student.

During her trial at Amersham Law Courts, the jury heard how she threatened the boy by telling hims she would “bring him down with her” if their relationship was exposed.

When he gave evidence at her trial, Daniel Barber described his wife as his “rock”, and he accompanied her to court throughout the proceedings. He also denied that they had been going through a “bad patch” at the time of the offences.

The court head that Barber added herself to the boy’s Snapchat in September 18 and within a week the messages became explicit. She also sent a topless picture of herself to the boy, which ended up being circulated around the school.

Recorder Bal Dhaliwal sentenced the supply teacher to six years and two months behind bars after she was found guilty of causing or inciting a child to engage in sexual activity, calling her crimes “beyond despicable.”

“You also sent images, including a topless image of yourself, and a live video in which you were masturbating. All of these acts are tantamount to you grooming him and pulling him in, and with significant planning on your part.”

Barber later told the boy to delete all messages and block her on Snapchat to stop evidence being found, and even told him she was pregnant in an attempt to control him.

Recorder Dhaliwal said: “You remained determined to silence him in whatever way you could.

“This was yet another attempt by you to manipulate and control him.”

Barber was also handed a 16-month prison sentence for causing a child under 16 to watch sexual activity by a person in breach of trust and a further 10-month sentence for sexual communication, both to be served concurrently with her main sentence.

Following the sentencing, the NSPCC stressed the need for victims of child sexual abuse to be properly supported.

A spokesperson for the charity said: “As a teacher, Barber would have been well aware of the vulnerability of young people, and it was her duty to safeguard those in her care.

“But, instead, she exploited her position of trust to groom and abuse this teenage boy for her own sexual gratification.”
