A man has had to fork out £300 for dumping a toilet seat in the street.

The fly-tipper, from neighbouring Hertfordshire, travelled to Chalfont St Giles to dump a bizarre selection of waste - an old toilet seat, a frying pan and some cardboard - in November last year.

When many of us hear 'fly-tipping', we often think of huge mounds of rubbish - but actually, even this relatively small amount of waste is still punishable.

The man had dumped the rubbish near The Ivy House in London Road - but he was identified by Buckinghamshire Council's fly-tipping team based on evidence left at the scene.

Because it was a small quantity and he admitted dumping it, he was not required to go to court and made an early payment of £300 of a £400 fixed penalty notice for fly-tipping.

On average more than one fly-tipper is caught and convicted every week in Buckinghamshire.
