A new playground that cost nearly £90,000 has officially been opened - to the delight of Beaconsfield families.

The long-anticipated playground at Malthouse Square in Beaconsfield Old Town has 22 pieces of play equipment for youngsters to enjoy, including a replacement disabled roundabout, a zip wire, a 4m climbing net, table tennis table, basketball net, see-saw for four, and a surf rider for two.

There is also a freestyle glider which will be of interest to skateboarders in particular and is designed for a teenage to adult age range.

It was officially opened to the public on February 5, at a ceremony involving the mayor Cllr Alastair Pike, Beaconsfield MP Joy Morrissey and town crier Dick Smith.

Cllr Pike said: "I am delighted to be opening this new playground that we have invested almost £90,000 in with some inspiring new pieces of play equipment for the under sevens and over sevens play area."

As well as the new play equipment, the park has also been kitted out with new picnic tables that are wheelchair and pushchair friendly and more seating, thanks to kind donors A A Ng, Beaconsfield Community Association, The Beaconsfield Old Church School Charity and The Beaconsfield Society.

A new cherry blossom tree is also expected to be added to provide some shade in the summer months.

Cllr Pike added: "This is part of our programme to update and improve our amenities across the town and most importantly for children in the area to have fun playing outdoors."
