Internet is everywhere, so children at Elmtree Infant and Nursery School on Elm Tree Hill in Chesham learnt essential skills to navigate safely online in today’s hyper-connected world.

The ‘Safer Internet Day’, a national celebration on February 8 marking its 19th year of celebration, was organised by UK Safer Internet Centre and with support from Discovery Education.

After watching a video advising how to keep personal details secure and avoid unkind behaviour online the children created an online safety poster for their school wall and shared E-Safety learning in an all-school assembly followed by playful celebration with friends.

One of the pupils, Spencer, 6, said: "I love playing games on the internet and now I know how to keep safe online."

The school is acutely aware how important online safety is from the very start of the childrens’ journey, Jane Gammell, E-Safety Co-ordinator at Elmtree Infant and Nursery School said.

She said: “Many families have access to mobile technologies at home, so when children come to us they have already had some exposure to the online world.”

Ms Gammell said a dedicated day for safer internet is a great opportunity to reinforce electronic safety teaching.

She said: “Even our youngest pupils respond well to the colourful and informative content which is easy to navigate and fun to use.”
