A driver who was caught speeding at nearly 90mph on a 60mph Bucks road has been fined hundreds of pounds.

Michael McCarthy, 34, of Penn Road in Aylesbury, has been ordered to pay a £307 fine and £124 in costs after he was recorded speeding at 88mph on the A413 Wendover Bypass on April 16, 2021.

The speed limit on the carriageway is 60mph.

There are no fixed speed cameras on the busy road, but the driver was caught out by a mobile speed camera that was set up on the roadside.

The Mini driver was found guilty of speeding via single justice procedure at Wycombe Magistrates’ Court on February 10.

At the end of the hearing, the magistrates endorsed McCarthy’s licence with four penalty points, as well as issuing him with a fine and costs.

The A413 Wendover bypass is a well-used route between Aylesbury and Amersham, but over the past few years several drivers have died in crashes on the fast-moving road.

In June 2019, 27-year-old mother Amy Evans died following a multi-car crash on the road, and in March 2014, Carl Bird and Malcolm Tindall died after the two drivers crashed into each other while the road was covered in black ice.

There is no suggestion that any of these deaths were the result of speeding.
