A popular Marlow bar that has been open for over a decade will be closing its doors.

Clayton's Bar has been at 16 Oxford Street for 11 years but the owner has announced he will not be renewing the lease.

The owner, Antosh Samek, said the decision came as he hopes to spend more quality time with his family.

The bar was named the 'Best Bar in Bucks and Oxon' by Muddy Stilettos and was shortlisted as the best late-night venue in the UK.

In a statement, Antosh writes: "As some of you may already know and to confirm that the rumours are true…

"My lease at Clayton’s Marlow runs out on Monday, May 2, 2022, exactly 11 years after starting.

"I have decided not to renew it and instead will be handing back the keys."

He described the start of his ownership as “tricky” opening up during a recession and taking on a building that had been empty for eight months.

Antosh continued: "It is and has been a really turbulent time in the bar industry with a great amount of uncertainty still around, however, what I do know is that I no longer want to be doing it.

"I have a wife and a four-year-old and they deserve to have the best version of me and not the one that’s broken after a 12-hour shift until three in the morning."

After taking some time off, Antosh has said he will turn his attention to Clayton’s Cocktails, a business he started as a lockdown project but hopes to grow going forward.

He finished by saying: "Thanks for the support and the memories and let’s make a few more before it gets turned into a wine bar or restaurant or something."
