WIZARDS, princesses, Disney characters and dinosaurs will appear in classrooms all over the town next month when World Book Day is staged.

After two years of the event being held under lockdown conditions because of the pandemic, it’s full steam ahead for this year’s celebration - and we want to see all your photos for a special gallery.

Created by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation 27 years ago, World Book Day promotes the idea of reading for pleasure, especially for children from disadvantaged backgrounds.

The first celebration in the UK was in 1997, which means March 3 will be the 25th anniversary for British schools.

Founder Baroness Gail Rebuck, said: “We wanted to do something to reposition reading and our message is the same today as it was then – that reading is fun, relevant, accessible, ex citing, and has the power to transform lives.”

According to UNESCO spending just 10 minutes in a day reading with children can make a real difference to their futures.

If your child is taking part in a World Book Day event send your picture to us below or email james.richings@newsquest.co.uk including their name, age and school.
