The Liberal Democrat MP for Chesham and Amersham Sarah Green raised alarm after the government announced the plan to scrap free Covid tests for those not clinically vulnerable.

From April 1 anyone not considered as vulnerable will have to pay for a Covid test themselves.

Her warning for the consequences of doing so comes amid government research showing many struggle with rise in living costs and charging for Covid tests could put people off from testing before meeting vulnerable loved ones and in turn cause those most at risk to become isolated.

Sarah Green MP said: “It is unfair and unjust.

“Charging people in Buckinghamshire for the tests they need to safely see vulnerable loved ones risks leaving many in our area in lockdown by stealth.

“Those who cannot afford this extra cost will simply stop testing. Vulnerable people in our community will see fewer loved ones and will be able to enjoy less of their lives.

“Throughout the pandemic, we have all been trying hard to do the right thing and keep others safe. The Government should not be making that harder.”
