Military children from Wendover C of E Junior School have raised £530 for the national charity, Little Troopers, by coming to school in their pyjamas.

Located just up the road from RAF Halton, nine per cent of students at the school are from a military family and the school regularly uses resources from the Little Troopers at School programme to support its service students.

Last year, 34 children took part in the Little Troopers virtual school roadshow, exploring some of the unique challenges that military children sometimes face such as having a parent deployed overseas and regularly having to move home and school.

All 360 children at the school took part in the mufti-day to raise money in support of their military peers as part of Little Troopers annual ‘Fundraise February’ campaign.

Ria Austin, a teacher at the school said: “Little Troopers is a charity really close to our heart at Wendover Junior School so it was wonderful to involve all the students in raising money that will go towards resources that we use here at the school.

"Our non-military students are always really interested to learn more about military life and the experiences of their military friends so this was a good opportunity to talk about that and to encourage them to show their support.”

Louise Fetigan, the founder of Little Troopers, adds: “We are so grateful to Wendover C of E Junior School and all the children who took part in the mufti day.

"Little Troopers has been going for ten years now but we are a small charity and still rely on the support of our amazing fundraisers. We have lots of plans for our Little Troopers at School programme this year and the money raised in Wendover will go towards these projects.”

Little Troopers is registered a charity to support all children with parents serving in the British Armed Forces.

As well as the charity’s school programme, Little Troopers also has a number of free resources that parents can use to support children at home.

This includes the Little Troopers treasures story recording app for military parents to record themselves reading stories for their children to watch while they are away.
