Following our recent piece on how we found and retrieved an environmentally-friendly Zipp e-scooter outside our office in Loudwater, it seems that the vehicles being dumped in nearby rivers and lakes is a familiar occurrence.

Hours after the article was published, we were told that several other scooters were also seen in rivers across the town.

A source told the Bucks Free Press that seeing the devices being dumped in water ‘has not been uncommon’, and that they had removed three scooters ‘from the river near Wyn Dene.’

It has also been suggested that ‘at least one more was removed from there.’

The incidents were alleged to have taken place over the last 12 months.

One of the people who helped get the scooters out of the water said: "One of our concerns with these getting into the river is the potential for ecological damage from their batteries leaking into the water.

"I should add that Zipp Mobility have always been responsive in collecting the scooters we have removed and informed them about."

We have contacted Buckinghamshire Council for a comment.
