Bruern Abbey School is expanding their unique offering to boys, aged 13 to 16, which will cover up to GCSEs and other nationally recognised qualifications.

Alongside this timetable there will be a full and varied sports programme with co-curricular offerings to enhance the school experience.

Bruern Abbey School is distinct from other schools as they focus their attention on boys with learning difficulties such as dyslexia, dyspraxia and dyscalculia. The outstanding pastoral care is embedded into the school DNA.

At the heart of what Bruern Abbey School stands for is the mission to offer bespoke and expert teaching coupled with a broad appreciation of the values of an all-round education. Bruern Abbey School firmly believes that this enhances the boys’ self-esteem thereby creating an atmosphere conducive to success.

Bruern has always provided exceptional pastoral care. Daily pastoral meetings involving all staff allows the school to share successes both big and small as well as track and resolve major and minor pastoral concerns. The scale of Bruern Abbey Senior School, with its potential maximum of 120 pupils, was deliberately chosen to allow every staff member to know each boy well. This in-depth knowledge of each boy's character is a prerequisite for fully understanding the needs of the boys and therefore how we help them reach their potential.

Furthermore, the teaching and boarding staff are ably assisted by our pre-existing Bruern network of professionals including cognitive behavioural therapists, educational psychologists, school counsellors, bereavement counsellors and psychiatrists.

Bruern Abbey Senior School will also give the boys a chance to experience all facets of Bruern life. These will include music lessons and weekly music recitals - the boys will benefit from our pre-existing musical network of peripatetic musicians. Boys currently have the option to learn guitar, drums, trumpet and saxophone to name a few.

They will also have the chance to showcase their musical skills on a weekly basis when parents come to formal dinners. There will be a weekly candle lit choral evensong on Wednesday evenings in the beautiful St. Mary’s Church which adjoins the school.

The Bruern sporting programme will include rugby, football and cricket as well as having the option of swimming, athletics, horse riding, clay pigeon shooting and cross country.

Bruern Abbey Senior School is located in the rolling hills of Chilton, Buckinghamshire, and will be offering the following differences from traditional senior schooling:

  • small classes to allow an enhanced focus on literacy and numeracy;
  • a bespoke timetable which will include the use of IT and will ultimately avoid the traditional pitfalls of independent study in the evening.

The weekly structure is built around a 9am arrival on Monday morning and 5pm on Friday afternoon. Boys can decide to be a day pupil or boarder. There will be a dedicated bus service to and from London, replicating Bruern Abbey Prep School.
