'YUMMY food' and 'tirst-quenching beverages were on the menu for residents at one care home for Nutrition and Hydration Week.

Staff and residents at Chalfont Lodge nursing home, Chalfont St Peter, celebrated the national holiday by delving into the world of healthy eating and drinking.

A whole week of activities was staged for staff and residents including blind taste tests with smoothies, cookery demonstrations, and exotic fruit tasting.

The home's general manager Raj Boodhoo said “Our chefs are trained to prepare dishes our residents’ specific dietary requirements as well as all their likes and dislikes. In addition to being trained in how to cook delicious and well prepared food, the chefs are trained in nutritional balance and special diets.

"They put a lot of time and effort into menu planning and so we all wanted to say thank you to them during Nutrition and Hydration Week.”

Michael Butler, a resident at Chalfont Lodge commented: “I really enjoyed the exotic food tasting, I’ve never seen a dragon fruit let alone tasted one, and it was delicious. It was so much fun learning about what parts of the world each the fruits came from.

"I’ll never forget that I’ve now eaten a red banana."

Chalfont Lodge Care Centre is run by Barchester Healthcare and provides nursing care and dementia care for 106 residents.
