A new landlord is wanted to run a village pub that recently shut its doors.

The Horse and Jockey in Church Road, Tylers Green, closed at the end of March after the landlords decided to move on.

The popular village pub is owned by Star Pubs and Bars - part of Heineken UK - who are now looking for someone new to take it on with an annual rent of £47,000.

The pub company is planning a huge refurbishment project to overhaul it into a "premium, country-style pub with a modern finish".

Saying goodbye to their loyal regulars last month, the previous team Kirsty, Steph and Abbie said on Facebook it was "sad times" but "onto a new chapter".

They said: "It is with sadness that we are announcing the closure of the Jockey.

"It has been an absolute pleasure meeting and serving you all and we would like to take this opportunity to thank all of our customers for supporting the pub these past 18 months; we will miss you all."

The pub hosted regular live music and sports events and was a firm favourite with locals, who expressed their sadness at the closure.

One person said: "Sad day for all Penn residents."

Another said: "That's sad... my regular boozer from 1965 onwards."

Advertising the pub to would-be landlords, a listing on findmypub.com says it is a due for an "exciting" new look.

It says: "A cosy interior with low-beamed ceilings, a warm fireplace interior and distinctive heritage finishes will give the pub a unique rural charm.

"Bringing these features to life with a lively bar, games area and zoned dining space, will create an exceptional community pub appealing to a wide range of customers.

"The rejuvenated beer garden will become a beautiful alfresco dining terrace, supporting the exciting new food offer.

"As a result, the refurbishment will create a destination dining venue placed at the heart of the local community.

"The open-plan layout with subtle zones and the attractive alfresco dining terrace will improve the flow of service and give the pub cross-season appeal.

"This is a pub with great potential, all that's missing is the right person to drive it forward. So, could that be you?"

It seems Star Pubs and Bars has been looking for a new landlord for the Horse and Jockey for many months, but no one has yet come forward.

Just days after the Horse and Jockey shut its doors, another local pub also closed.

The 300-year-old George and Dragon Hotel and Pub in West Wycombe High Street shut earlier this month as the hotel's owner and head chef Arnaud Stevens has moved on.
