Commuters could be facing misery on the Metropolitan line after inspections found some trains had a fault with their wheels.

As of today, April 11, a reduced timetable is being operated on the Met Line, with trains running between Baker Street in central London and Amersham and Chesham every 30 minutes.

There are warnings of severe disruption while engineers check the entire fleet of trains and passengers are being urged to check before they travel.

Trains will also be running between Watford and Baker Street every 15 minutes and between Uxbridge and Aldgate every 15 minutes.

A statement from TfL said: "From Monday 11 April we will be running a special timetable on the Metropolitan line until further notice.

"This is due to a fault being identified on some of the wheels on a number of Metropolitan line trains during our regular and routine inspections.

"Safety is our top priority, and as a precautionary measure, we have increased the rate of inspection of these trains to make detailed checks on the entire fleet.

"The timetable changes will ensure we continue to run as frequent and regular service as possible while inspections take place and the fault is resolved."

Chesham and Amersham MP Sarah Green urged her constituents to check online before heading out.

She said: "After discovering faults on some trains, TfL are inspecting the Met Line fleet. As a result, trains from Chesham and Amersham stations will run every 30 mins. Check your journey before travelling."
