Volunteer Jules Hargreaves and a team have tirelessly collected aid for Ukraine for the past six weeks – and now have lorries driving it to Poland and Ukraine.

When the news of the Russian invasion in Ukraine broke, Jules quickly started asking for donations without much organisation.

The team effort operation has evolved into a well-oiled machine: they sort out the donations at the St Georges Church Scout Hut on White Lion Road in Little Chalfont as people bring it in every Friday.

There’s also a fundraiser on GoFundMe called ‘Amersham and Surrounding areas Aid to Ukraine’, which has raised over £2,800, and is used to buy medical and front line items.

Everything’s labelled rigorously whether it has food, children’s products, food, medical items, toiletries or emergency items for the front line.

It’s then loaded up into a luton van and driven to Bedford by Jules’ partner and transferred into a lorry, which would otherwise drive back to Poland-Ukraine border empty.

In the first week of April, the collection saw a 60 percent drop in donations compared to the previous.

Jules said: “Please continue to support us.

“I can’t stress enough again that these items are still very much needed.

“Coffee sachets, snacks, that can be easily eaten on the front line, battery packs.

“Items that mean they can have a five-minute rest to phone their family and a moment to chill.

“We’re also always looking for children’s medicines.”

One of the volunteers Bucks Free Press spoke to, as she sifted through the donations, encouraged people to bring medical items, but reminded that everything brought has to be in date - even bandages have best before dates.

Jules thanked the people in Amersham and the surrounding areas, who have stepped up and showed their care.
