A High Wycombe man who brought a large hammer and a knife into the town has avoided going to jail.

James Scott, aged 40, of Chairborough Road, was caught in West Wycombe Road on March 10 carrying a large hammer - which is classified as an offensive weapon.

Then, only two days later, he was caught in Birches Rise carrying a kitchen knife in public without a good reason.

Scott was taken to Wycombe Magistrates' Court on March 28 where he pleaded guilty to one count of possession of an offensive weapon in a public place and one count of possession of a knife in a public place.

After he admitted the charges, the justices decided not to lock Scott up, instead giving him a nine-month prison sentence suspended for 12 months.

He was also given a two-month curfew with an electronic tag, preventing him from leaving his home during certain hours of the night.

Scott will also have to pay £85 in court costs.
