Two people who brazenly dumped rubbish in a lane just metres away from a household recycling centre where they could have taken it for free have been ordered to pay thousands.

In two separate incidents in October and November last year, waste was left in Crow Piece Lane in Burnham

Javid Malik, 54, of Blackwell Court, Slough dumped a large fridge freezer and two small desk chairs in the lane in broad daylight on Wednesday, October 13.

Weeks later on Wednesday, November 10, Marian Ilie, 33, of Thirlmere Avenue, Slough, waited until it was dark to dump a car part on the same road.

Council officers were able to trace both vehicles involved in the fly-tipping back to the suspects - and both men admitted their crimes when presented with the evidence and interviewed at Slough Police Station.

At High Wycombe Magistrates' Court on March 30, Ilie pleaded guilty to illegally dumping the waste and was fined £1,846 and ordered to pay clean-up and prosecution costs of £500.

A victim surcharge of £185 was also added – making a total to pay £2,513.

On April 6, Malik also pleaded guilty at Wycombe Magistrates' and was fined £1,193 and ordered to pay clean up and investigation costs of £500.

A victim surcharge of £119 made a total to pay of £1,812.

Fifteen people have been fined for dumping waste in Crow Piece Lane since August 2020 - a site that is under CCTV surveillance because it has long been blighted by fly-tipping despite being so close to the tip.

Peter Strachan, Cabinet Member for Climate Change and Environment said: “In both these cases the perpetrators could so easily have taken the waste to one of our Household Recycling Centres for free but for some reason, they chose not to.

“I would like to remind Bucks residents and even for people across the border in Slough, there is no charge for taking waste to our centres.

"If you are going to the trouble of putting it in your car to dispose of, why not take it to the tip instead of dumping it illegally?

“We will not tolerate fly-tipping in Buckinghamshire and these two cases demonstrate the consequences.

"Both perpetrators are now out of pocket when there was absolutely no reason to be.

"I would urge others to take note and do the right thing with their waste.”
