A 66-year-old man was arrested in Amersham after an alleged racially-aggravated assault on M&S staff in March.

Thames Valley Police were called to the scene after a man reportedly assaulted and abused staff on March 31 at 8.30pm at M&S Simply Food on Sycamore Road.

The victims are said to be a 17-year-old girl and her 18-year-old sister, who were working together in M&S at the time.

While the suspect fled the scene and couldn’t be found, a man was arrested two weeks later on April 14 in connection with the incident.

A Thames Valley Police spokesperson said: “The offender was in the store and was approached by two members of staff.

“The offender was then racially abusive towards one of the staff members.

“Another staff member came over due to the incident escalating and the offender then assaulted other staff members before being removed from the store and leaving the area prior to police attendance.”

“A 66-year-old man from Amersham was arrested on suspicion of racially aggravated assault, assault, assaulting an emergency worker and racially aggravated public order today (April 14) – he remains in police custody.”
