A shoplifter who stole hundreds of pounds worth of designer goods from John Lewis in High Wycombe has avoided going to prison.

Dale McGinn, of no fixed address, went to the department store in the Cressex Centre on August 21 last year, where he stole three Ralph Lauren shirts and a pair of designer Ralph Lauren socks.

McGinn also lifted bottles of Giorgio Armani and Jimmy Choo aftershave.

In total, the 33-year-old hauled £433-worth of goods.

At a hearing at Wycombe Magistrates' Court on April 12, McGinn pleaded guilty to a charge of theft from a shop.

At the same hearing, he also pleaded guilty to charges of failing to surrender to custody and failing to comply with the supervision requirements following release from a period of imprisonment.

Considering the offences, the magistrates opted not to send McGinn back into custody, instead giving him a 12-week sentence suspended for one year.

The thief was also ordered to pay £433 in compensation and a £50 fine.
