A village supermarket that has been empty for nine years will finally open tomorrow as a new boxing gym.

The former Budgens store in Aries House on Straight Bit, Flackwell Heath, has been transformed into a boxing and fitness gym who are hosting a free open day on April 28.

This comes as the police confirm they are investigating an "increase in anti-social behaviour" in the area.

Police have been undergoing extra patrols after a teenage girl who recently passed her driving test had her car egged last week as she was driving through the village.

The boxing gym itself has already faced problems with anti-social behavior after their unit was also egged.

A social media post from the Flackwell Boxing and Fitness Hub said: "Sorry for the delay it's just we have been too busy cleaning eggs off this place but fear not hopefully we can get these kids to stop throwing eggs and start throwing one-twos.

"The owners have given us this great opportunity to use the space.

"So we have spent the last few months getting the space ready to open a Boxing & Fitness club.

"It's been a pleasure meeting so many people already and look forward to meeting more.

"Everyday is a battle in our lives so let's all fight our troubles together through Boxing or Fitness.

"We want to create a good community feel about the place and will be doing classes to suit all.

"Age, race, gender it doesn't matter, experienced or not experienced it doesn't matter lets make everybody feel welcome."

Locals will hope that the arrival of the boxing gym will see a decline in antisocial behaviour that has risen in recent times.

Earlier this month, an investigation was launched after a suspected arson attack after firefighters put out a blaze at the local play area on Straight Bit.

There was also been a string of incidents in the Straight Bit recreation ground last year, where racist graffiti was found on a piece of fitness equipment close to the bowls club.

The playground was also previously vandalised multiple times with the inside area of the climbing wall damaged by fire and new surfacing near the roundabout dug out.

On a visit to the playground, councillors were also shocked to see two swings had been stolen along with the ground surfacing underneath and the wooden frame badly damaged.

In October 2021, a private security company was hired by the parish council to tackle anti-social behaviour in the village.

The boxing gym will open from 5.45pm to 7pm for 8 to 16-year-olds and from 7.30pm for adults.
