When Ryan Tafazolli scored Wycombe’s first goal in Wanderers’ 2-0 play-off first leg semi-final win over Milton Keynes on May 5, it’s fair to say that Adams Park erupted.

The close-range header was nodded in by the six-foot-plus centre-back as he registered his fifth strike of the season, and his first goal since October.

Three corners of the Hillbottom Road stadium were on their feet as it gave the Chairboys a foothold in the tie, going into Sunday’s reverse fixture at Stadium: MK.

And as well as the thousands of people who were cheering on Wanderers from pubs in the town, to those who were at home, there were several supporters outside of the British Isles that were showing off their love to the Chairboys.

And no, it wasn’t just the fans from Spain that have taken Gareth Ainsworth’s team to their hearts.

Instead, cheers could be heard across the pond in Mexico, as three supporters jumped for joy when Tafazolli gave Wycombe the lead against MK.

The video of the trio celebrating the opening goal was shared on social media, with many Wycombe fans in England liking and sharing the content.

So why were three fans from the North American club cheering on the Chairboys?

It came after two brothers in Francisco and Frenzel Gamez were playing the FIFA game franchise at the end of the 2010s and came across a certain club from south Buckinghamshire.

Deciding to play as Wycombe Wanderers, they of course came across Adebayo Akinfenwa and after a quick Google search on the club, as well as the popular striker, the two brothers made it their goal to watch the club live in the flesh.

Their dream came true in February 2020 when the two brothers flew from Mexico to England to watch Wanderers take on Tranmere Rovers, in what would be the final home game for the club before the Covid-19 pandemic.

Wycombe won 3-1 with Anthony Stewart, Akinfenwa and Joe Jacobson all getting on the scoresheet.

Speaking to the Free Press two years on their visit, Frenzel said: “I really enjoyed the game and I enjoyed the people and the town.

“It was our first time in Wycombe and it was incredible.

“And we were really happy when Akinfenwa scored - it was a dream come true.

Wycombe manager Gareth Ainsworth then said: "That's the story of football.

"These guys have come all the way from Mexico to watch Wycombe Wanderers vs Tranmere.

"They could have watched any Premier League team, any Championship game, but because they fell in love with this club, mainly through a computer game, and we just so have to have the strongest player on that game in our team, where he scored a goal, I don't think they could have had a better day.

"So muchas gracias to our fans from Mexico."
